visas

The Language House has all the relevant visa forms you need to study English in the country of your choice. We will also assist you in completing the forms.

Important:

• You should apply for your visa at least 4 to 8 weeks before you leave.
• The information below relates to Swiss and French clients. Visa regulations for other nationalities may be slightly different.
• Visa regulations are always changing. Please contact The Language House or the relevant consulate or embassy for the latest advice.

Australia

If you plan to study for more than 12 weeks you will need a Student Visa. You will need a letter of admission from the Australian Government (we will provide that) and show adequate financial arrangements for your stay. Overseas Student Health Cover (Australian health insurance) is compulsory. If you are studying for 12 weeks or less you may enter with a tourist visa (three months or six month duration).

Important:

It is possible to do a 12 week Cambridge exam course in Australia on a tourist visa.

Work in Australia:

If you have a Student Visa you may apply for permission to work once you are in Australia. You may legally work a maximum of 20 hours per week while you are studying full-time. You cannot work in Australia on a Tourist Visa.

Canada

You can study English in Canada up to six months on a Tourist Visa. More than six months you will need Student Authorization and this can take between four and six weeks. You may also be asked to undertake a medical examination.

The UK

It is easy! Just take your official letter of acceptance and other school documents to show curious immigration officers.

The USA

The visa process for the USA is a little more complicated. There are three visa forms to fill in. You must obtain an official student visa I-20 (we will provide this) before you can apply for a visa form. You must show evidence that you have adequate financial support. If you want to study for more than 18 hours a week you must have a student visa I-20.

Ireland

It is easy. Carry your official letter of acceptance from their school with you while you travel. If you are staying for more than three months you must officially register at a police station or the Aliens Office. Your school will advise you.

New Zealand

The New Zealand process is similar to Australia, Canada and the USA, but often takes longer. NZ will only provide visas when courses have been fully paid. This process may take between six and eight weeks.
